So the report into Russian interference in the Brexit Vote was released by the government today and they confirmed there was absolutely nothing to report. Phew! We can all get on with lockdown in peace.
Erm, not quite, the Intelligence and Security Committee is fewmin! In the report, they said, “we have not been provided with any post-referendum assessment of Russian attempts at interference ... in stark contrast to the US handling of allegations of Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election. The government did not take action to protect the UK’s process in 2016”.
They recommend that the intelligence services “produce an analogous assessment of potential Russian interference in the EU referendum”.
In a statement released by Downing Street, our overlords said “we have seen no evidence of successful interference in the EU referendum”, and, “a retrospective assessment ... is not necessary”. Well, that is that cleared up then.
Despite the report noting that there was credible intelligence that Putin and the boys have had their beaks in our business for years yet the government have decided to ignore it. But why? The simple answer is that they don't care about the truth they just want a narrative that fits their evil plans to ensure Brexit is pushed through.
Remember the hoo-ha over massively overspending by the Brexit Party, the government let that slide. £3.5million a week for the NHS anyone? Utter tripe, not a flicker from Cameron and the rest of the Bullingdon pig doinkers.
So what does this mean for us? We will never know to what extent the Russian's were involved in the Brexit Vote (and probably the last General Election), but what we do know is that the government and the security services are doing everything they can to cover their arses and that is a massive tell.
