ON THIS DAY, 2003...

On 4th March 2003, Microsoft Studios released Freelancer. Developed by Digital Anvil, the game is billed as a space trading and combat simulation. You play the role of Edison Trent, who goes through a series of missions to save the Sirius sector from a mysterious alien force. There is also a multiplayer game allowing you to roam free across the universe.

The game was really well received and won all kinds of awards. I played it to death, finished the single-player and can confirm it is brilliant. Engaging plot, great dialogue, cracking graphics (for the time) and a bit of freedom to explore before returning to the missions. I'm really tempted to play it again, if you want a go the game can be found online for about a fiver.
