The Temple Within is an EP released by Halsall on his own Gondwana imprint. The record is the fruits from a month long residency at Yes in Manchester with his new band of local musicians where the tracks were written, rehearsed and perfected before being recorded.

I read that this record draws on spiritual and heritage British jazz as well as world music and electronica. I honestly don’t know if that is true, I can’t really talk about jazz records, I just know what I like and I really like this. I’ve enjoyed everything he has put out, whatever jazz sub genre Halsall falls under is my jam.

Apparently the title of the record comes from an Alice Coltrane quote talking about how your spiritual space isn’t a church or temple but rather it comes from within yourself. Hallelujah!

Tracks To Try: ‘The Temple Within’, ‘The Eleventh Hour’
