NOW PLAYING: 'SPRING TIDE' BY THE SHIPBUILDERS...

Updated: Jun 15

Sometimes albums hit me immediately, sometimes they need to wash over a few times to reveal themselves, ‘Spring Tide’ hit me so hard that it should have been called tsunami. 40 minutes of gloriously uplifting indie pop with a great big dollop of surf rock on top.

Released in the summer, my vinyl copy eventually arrived this week after being a victim of pressing plant log jams, terrible supply chain issues and postal strikes in Britain (big up the Posties, 100% behind you). Behold the magnificence of its blueness! Well worth the wait in my humble opinion.

So, what is the album all about? In the band’s own words they “create a world where sparkling pop wonders are nestled between Spanish Civil War laments, gypsy arias, and chaotic, shambolic odes to drinking, death, and everything in between.” Quite.

If you fancy an excellent album of folk pop songs with a liberal spattering of surf rock twang, modern sea shanties, Mexican Western guitars, and 60’s Indian psychadelica then this will definitely wax your board. The blue vinyl has been restocked too and is available from the groups Bandcamp store.

This is easily one of my favourite albums of 2022.

Tracks To Try: ‘Strangers Lament’, ‘Fault Line’, ‘Atlantic Way’, ‘Forest Floor’, ‘Same Story’.
