NOW PLAYING: ‘JUBILEE’ BY JAPANESE BREAKFAST...

Updated: Jan 13, 2023

I took a chance on the previous Japanese Breakfast album ‘Soft Sounds From Another Planet’ after hearing the track ‘Driving Woman’ when it was played on Spotify as a “you might also like…” after an album finished.

Thought it was really good, easily the best track on that album, so when the new album was announced I took a punt and preordered it.

Safe to say, this album is stronger than the last. The single ‘Be Sweet’ has been all over BBC6Music, as was the follow up ‘Paprika’. The other releases from the album are strong too, ‘Slide Tackle’ has a 80s horn solo in the middle which is always appreciated and ‘Posing In Bondage’ is a peek at the darker side of pristine pop.

This LP feels bigger that the other two releases, more fleshed out, it’s as if they had more budget to produce this album and more time. It is classic indie rock, pop with a bit of shoe gaze thrown in now and then for good measure.

Tracks To Try: ‘Be Sweet’, ‘Paprika’, ‘Kokomo, NI’, ‘Posing In Bondage’
