NOW PLAYING: 'HEAVY ELEVATOR' BY HAMISH HAWK...

Updated: Jun 15

I was lucky enough to see Hamish Hawk in Liverpool on Monday (brilliant gig, had a chat with him afterwards and he is a lovely guy too) so decided to give this fantastic record another spin while I wait for the new album, ‘Angel Numbers’ to be delivered - damn you pressing plant delays!

First got on to Hawk after hearing the delightfully titled ‘The Mauritian Badminton Doubles Champion, 1973’ single on BBC 6Music and was hooked. I then heard the subsequent singles ‘Calls To Tiree’ and ‘Caterpillar’ and was hooked.

I’ve mentioned this album before, at the time I said it was a slick, pop/rock album full of catchy songs sprinkled with clever lyrics delivered in a ‘Divine Comedy’-esque way. After repeated listens, I stand by that review. Well worth a listen…

This is the Dinked Edition of ‘Heavy Elevator’ and comes on really eye catching vinyl. If you fancy a copy like this, the last one to be sold went for a whopping £60 on Discogs but there are currently none available. The regular, black edition is available all over the place for £30.

Tracks To Try: ‘This, Whatever It Is, Needs Improvement’, ‘The Mauritian Badminton Doubles Champion, 1973’, ‘Bakerloo Unbecoming’, ‘Caterpillar’.
