NOW PLAYING: 'COOL IT DOWN' BY YEAH YEAH YEAHS...

Updated: Jun 15

The Yeah Yeah Yeahs are back after 9 years and they sound great. On first listen the album sounds sparse and minimalist but a few run throughs reveals its depths and just how good it is.

The first single ‘Spitting Off The Edge Of The World’ is a brooding collaboration with indie darling Perfume Genius. It reminds me of the work singer Karen O did with producer Danger Mouse on their Lux Prima project which is definitely a good thing.

The follow up single ‘Burning’ was released a week or so ago and is an absolute banger! Fuzzy guitars, string backing and more than a hint of ‘Beggin’ by the Four Seasons in the vocal it, is a proper ear worm.

I wasn’t sure what to expect from this record but I’m pleasantly surprised. There is definitely the old YYYs DNA in there but it has evolved to incorporate a more electronic, poppier sound which is very much in vogue at the moment and is right up my street.

This is the limited red and blue splatter edition of the album and I can confirm the splatter is very limited! Could have thrown a bit more colour on the disc but that is a minor complaint.

This version of the record also comes with signed postcards of the band which I’m not usually a fan of but, I will make an exception when it comes to Karen O!!!

Tracks To Try: ‘Spitting Off The Edge Of The World’, ‘Wolf’, ‘Burning’, ‘Different Today’.
