NOW PLAYING: ‘BURNING DESIRE' BY JIMI HENDRIX…

Updated: Jan 13, 2023

Released for the Record Store Day - Black Friday 2022 event this is, according to the sticker on the front, an official Hendrix bootleg.

According to the notes this was compiled from 1969 and 1970 studio recordings and was mixed by Eddie Kramer. It is another record pressed at Pallas and comes on delightful orange and red audiophile grade vinyl (their words). To give them their due, it sounds great.

So what do you get for your money? 8 unfinished, but interesting, instrumental tracks that are basically recorded jam sessions. You can hear Hendrix guiding bassist Billy Cox and drummer Buddy Miles mid-song as he develops his sound after the breakup of The Jimi Hendrix Experience.

This album is probably one more for the purists/completists than the casual fan but that’s not to say it isn’t good, far from it, personally I find it fascinating hearing these raw tracks change and develop as the songs go on.

If that sounds like it would set your guitar on fire then there are still some available online for about £35 delivered but be quick as the album is limited to just 5,000 copies.

Tracks To Try: ‘Izabella’, ‘Villanova Junction Blues’, ‘Ezy Ryder/MLK Jam’, ‘Burning Desire’, ‘Record Plant 2X’.
